Worldwide use of terminology

Terminology saved in a central server is accessed with full functionality via the internet or intranet, or with limited functionality through your PDA. Thus, any user with an internet connection can receive comprehensive terminology support anywhere in the world. Access and usage rights are centrally managed and can be limited to specific data sets. WebTerm can display and process separately stored terminology as a single terminology dictionary. WebTerm users can thus be assigned different access rights to company terminology, e.g., specific dictionaries, read-only rights, etc.

  • Managing multiple dictionaries

  • Displaying multiple dictionaries as a virtual dictionary

  • Multi-database support for simultaneous access by a user to multiple databases (optional)

Depending on the selected user interface, read-only access or combined read-and-write access can be set up for specific users. Users with editing rights can either change/expand existing terminology themselves or be limited to sending comments (including date and user ID) to the terminology management center regarding certain entries. These comments serve as direct feedback regarding the quality and use of terminology entries. Comments are either delivered by e-mail to the terminology administrator or displayed to all users in WebTerm after being entered in the TermStar database.

Using the optional WebTerm Download function, centrally managed term bases can be added to locally stored dictionaries through a delta check. This function is particularly useful for remotely located translators and editors who wish to keep their local dictionaries continuously up-to-date.

Convenient terminology display and search

WebTerm users can choose from three different interfaces:

  • Standard interface

The standard interface contains all WebTerm functions with no restrictions (read and write access). Through numerous search and filter options, WebTerm helps translators, editors and terminologists work more efficiently.

  • Simple interface:

With the simple interface, the user can concentrate on basic terminology searches (read-only access) without having to deal with WebTerm's numerous terminology management features.

  • PDA interface

By using the WebTerm PDA interface, users can access WebTerm via their PDA while they are out of the office and easily search for terminology (read-only access).

The administrator can define, using the User Profile function, which fields are displayed, which functions are used and which settings can be changed by each user. WebTerm user interfaces can be easily adapted to client-specific corporate identities (e.g., by inserting company logos).
