Transit offers interfaces to all current desktop publishing, word processing and standard file formats (CAD, PDM, etc.), thus allowing optimal collaboration between editing and translation teams. During file import, Transit separates the text from metadata (such as layout) so that the translator can concentrate on the text to be translated without having to be familiar with a wide variety of programs. With Transit, he or she uses a single translation editor for all formats. During later export, Transit merges the translated text with the metadata.
